Roland Royston Purcell, MD

Dr. Roland Royston Purcell was born in Curaçao in the Netherland Antilles of Immigrant Grenadian parents. He is the oldest of six children. He spent the first seven years of his life in Curaçao then migrated to Grenada.

 

He attended the Grenada Boys Secondary School (G.B.S.S.) where he completed his high school education. He studied Medicine at the University of West Indies (formally, University College of London University), in Jamaica.

 

After graduating from the University of the West Indies, Dr. Purcell did his Internship at the Port of Spain General Hospital in Trinidad, West Indies. Upon completion of his Internship he returned to Grenada to work as a Medical Officer at the General Hospital St. George's, Grenada.

 

After completing his residency training in General Surgery at Interfaith Medical Center, he did a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the Texas Heart Institute and returned to Interfaith.

 

Since then, Dr. Purcell has been a member of the medical staff at Interfaith Medical Center. He has served in the Department of Surgery with deep commitment and dedication and a love for patient care.

 

Dr. Roland Purcell is an active member and fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is also a member of the Society for Clinical and Vascular Surgery, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Society of the American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons as well as many others. In addition, he served two terms as the President of the Medical Staff at Interfaith Medical. He was also honored by several organizations for his community work.

 

Dr. Purcell's hobbies include listening to music and reading. He also has a love for politics and philosophy, and a deep interest in the historical development of Surgery.
